Sequenom Test For Trisomy 21
The IDSC understands that the less invasive test for Down syndrome is going to be available soon. Our concern is that parents are given accurate, balanced, up to date information that helps new parents when they are given the diagnosis from this new blood test. The IDSC will be working hard to ensure that we do all that we can to make sure that the information that parents get reflects the dignity and respect for the life of the child who receives the diagnosis in utero.
Kennedy Brownback Bill
The IDSC supports the Kennedy Brownback bill, and is pleased that it has been signed into law. We will continue to watch the results of this. IDSC is hopeful that funding will be available for this law, and we will update when we know this to be true.
Genetic Information Non-discrimination Act (GINA) (H.R. 493)
On May 21, 2008, President Bush signed into law the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA). This law will protect Americans against discrimination based on their genetic information when it comes to health insurance and employment. The IDSC For Life supports this action, and encourages individuals to be aware of this in the future.
